What is malware?
Malware, short for malicious software, is a general term for any type of harmful software designed to damage, infiltrate, or steal data from computer systems. It includes viruses, trojans, ransomware, spyware, and more. Malware can spread through email attachments, infected websites, or vulnerabilities in software.
Think of malware as a digital parasite—it enters your system, often silently, and begins to disrupt, steal, or destroy, just like a biological parasite does to the body.
Example
An employee accidentally opens an email attachment that looks like an invoice but contains a trojan. The malware installs itself and starts sending sensitive company information to an external server—without the user's knowledge.
