What is juice jacking?
Juice jacking is a cyberattack where public USB charging stations are used to transfer malicious software to connected devices or steal data from them. Attackers modify the charging stations for malicious purposes.
How can you protect yourself against juice jacking?
-
Use a power outlet: Charge your device directly from a power outlet instead of a public USB charging station.
-
Get a power bank: Always carry a portable battery pack so you can charge your device without using public charging stations.
-
Use a USB condom: This is an adapter that blocks data transfer but allows charging.
-
Avoid using public USB chargers: If you must use a public charging station, use a USB cable that only transfers power and not data.
-
Keep your device updated: Ensure that your device’s operating system and security software are up to date.
