What is JIT (Just-in-Time)?
JIT (Just-in-Time) is an access control principle where users, systems, or services are granted elevated access only at the moment it is needed — and only for a limited period of time.
Instead of permanent administrative privileges, access is granted temporarily based on approval, context, or policy. Once the task is completed, access is automatically revoked.
JIT is especially effective in reducing risks associated with privileged accounts and administrative actions, and is a key control for minimizing misuse, errors, and attacks that exploit standing access.
Metaphorically, JIT can be compared to receiving a key that only works for a short time: it opens the door when needed, but becomes useless once the job is done.
Sicra and JIT (Just-in-Time)
Sicra applies JIT as a core principle within modern access management and Zero Trust Architecture. By combining JIT with strong authentication, logging, and monitoring, the risk associated with privileged actions is significantly reduced.
Through services such as Privileged Access Management (PAM) and Identity and Access Management (IAM), Sicra helps organizations implement JIT access for administrators, operators, and automated services.
JIT is also an important control within security consulting, audits, and maturity programs, where the objective is to eliminate standing privileges and enforce the principle of least privilege.
