Paul Omar is Sicra’s web editor. With two degrees from the University of Oslo, he has both depth and breadth in written and oral communication.
– I completed my bachelor’s in Nordic studies while Covid-19 was in its early stages. There was less time for Uglebo and pub activities, but I had more time to read, write, and think.
The bachelor’s in Nordic studies also included three exchanges around the Nordic region: Icelandic in Reykjavik, Finnish in Helsinki, and an advanced 30-credit course in rhetoric from Södertörn University in Sweden.
– The exchanges gave me the opportunity to grow as a person and get to know the culture and ways of thinking in the Nordic region a bit better. Although we have a lot in common, there are still subtle differences that are important to understand.
He pursued a master’s in rhetoric and linguistic communication from fall 2020 to spring 2023. Paul further specialized in rhetoric and textual science, focusing more on textual science towards the end of his studies.
– In my master’s thesis, I used textual science to establish a theoretical framework for evaluating video games. I am the first in the world to use cultural semiotics to explore video games.
Paul’s practical experience comes from a decade-long engagement in the media. He has written opinion pieces, participated in TV and radio debates, and has been a frequently used interview subject.
– Shabana Rehman helped me get my first article published in Aftenposten in 2017. Since then, I have written for several Norwegian newspapers and participated in many interesting discussions.
In addition, Paul has held roles in organizational life, ranging from board member to project manager. Among other things, he has been a project manager for day conferences in connection with Født Fri (Born Free).
– I haven’t been sitting idle even though I haven’t had a permanent job until now. For me, it would have been unthinkable to let a disability pension tie me to the couch.
Paul is committed to creating a joy of writing among the consultants and writing texts that have a positive impact for everyone at Sicra.
– Stig has not only given me an invaluable chance to succeed in the workforce. He has also given me an opportunity to learn new knowledge and acquire new skills. That is valuable.
In his free time, he enjoys playing video games, watching anime, and practicing improv theater. He also likes to explore food and drink.
– Especially improv theater has become a passion lately. It has also become a way to honor Shabana Rehman’s memory. Improv theater has become a way I can stay connected with a friend I can no longer call. She was my mentor, and I want to keep that alive.
Those who need help with text and speech at Sicra can rely on Paul’s expertise.
