Erik's first encounter with digital technology was an Atari 800XL in 1984. There, he also encountered his first programming language; Atari Basic.
– I learned as a seven-year-old that an Atari was more than just games. The fact that it had a programming language that could be used to do things triggered my curiosity.
His first experience with cybersecurity came during his military service. He was involved in the platform upgrade ahead of Y2K. He learned about the principle of reducing attack surfaces back then.
– The military has always had the attitude that it is better to be on the safe side. They prefer everything to be watertight.
After the military, he worked for a large British oil company. In the company, he managed servers, clients, printers, and backups in the Windows network. Additionally, he was an operator on an IBM AS/400 minicomputer.
– We were an IT department of two employees managing the entire Norwegian IT solution for the company. With such a small department, everyone had to be knowledgeable in everything.
Erik worked at Sykehuspartner IKT for a period, where he was involved in implementing a completely new data platform for all hospitals in the Health South-East region.
– I became well acquainted with hospital operations and hospital IT. Hospitals deliver critical services and depend on a secure and stable platform. It is meaningful work.
After his time at Sykehuspartner IKT, he worked as an advisor at the Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth, and Family Affairs (Bufetat). At Bufetat, he was responsible for monitoring and was involved in introducing Splunk.
– At Bufetat, I developed a fascination for logs and expertise in Splunk.
In 2021, he joined the professional environment at Sicra. We saw the value in a consultant with expertise in logs and Splunk.
– After five years at Bufetat, I felt the need to further develop my skills in Splunk. When Sicra showed interest in my expertise and wanted to give me room for further development, I knew where I wanted to work in the future.
In recent years at Sicra, he has acquired expertise in Palo Alto Networks' Cortex portfolio. Erik has assisted several customers with incident management in Cortex XDR.
In his spare time, Erik is an outdoorsman and photography enthusiast. He likes to go on long hikes with a backpack, often covering several hundred kilometers. While on long hikes, he often takes several photos along the way.
– I am what you call a gram hunter. It is a mindset where you always try to optimize the equipment in your backpack to reduce weight.
Do you need help with Cortex XDR or Splunk? Erik can assist you and your organization.
